Ringo Starr To Be Producer On His Album For First Time
Nov 19, 2009 - By Seraphina L.
Ringo Starr was always less popular than John Lennon and Paul McCartney when it came to the Beatles craze. During the Beatles‘ time together as a band, it was mostly McCartney and Lennon taking charge of songwriting responsibilities. Both also had much say in how their albums were produced. The fact that they were the main songwriters didn’t necessarily guarantee their appeal with the young girls back in the day, but it didn’t hurt!
Although Starr will be collaborating with a full roster on his upcoming album, Y Not, the quiet Beatles drummer has finally decided to get in front and be the go-to guy on this project.
According to Reuters, Starr released a statement about his feelings toward managing production for the first time and we think it’s about time!
“I was the least involved in the production of the Beatle records. And then with my solo records, I worked with some other great producers like Richard Perry, Arif Mardin, and Don Was. So it just seemed like that’s the way that it goes. Then suddenly, it’s another point in your life, and you say, ‘I’m going do this now.’ So I’ll be producing anything I make from now on.”
The album will not only feature McCartney on bass in “Peace Dream” and “Walk With You,” but others who have teamed up with Starr include: Eagles’ Joe Walsh, Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Dave Stewart, Glen Ballard and Van Dyke Parks and many more.
Starr’s album is slated fore release on January 12, 2010.
Do you have any doubt that Starr will do a great job producing his own album for the first time?

One inaccuracy — during the early years of Beatlemania in the US, Ringo was the MOST popular Beatle by a wide margin — even among people who otherwise didn't like the Beatles.
