All John Mayer wants to do is prove that he’s a musician, and with his latest album, Battle Studies, he’s also on his way to becoming a certifiable chart topper. Billboard reported, that close industry sources suspect that the singer-songwriter could sell up to 300,000 copies of Battle Studies come Sunday.

If Battle Studies performs as predicted, it would mark Mayer’s second chart-topping album. In 2003, his sophomore disc Heavier Things opened with 317,000 copies, and in 2006, Continuum entered at No. 2 with 300,000 copies. So, aside from being an amazing musician and songwriter, Mayer is also a chart-topping maniac, which is a good thing. After all, he did say that music is more famous than anyone’s personal life.

Also on their way to the top is 50 cent with his latest album, Before I Self Destruct, and Norah Jones with The Fall, both estimated to sell 150,000 copies. Them Crooked Vultures‘ debut album is also ensured to make the top 20, along with Leona LewisEcho, and Paul McCartney‘s new live set Good Evening, New York City. There’s such a variety to choose from this week, it’s hard to settle on just one artist.

What do you think of John Mayer topping the charts, again?
