LCD Soundsystems James Murphy and Noah Baumbach Team Up LCD Soundsystems James Murphy and Noah Baumbach Team UpIt’s been two years since LCD Soundsystem has released their latest album, Sound of Silver, but director Noah Baumbach is still hot on his indie credibility due to association with successful Wes Anderson films and his most recent screenwriting for Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Luckily, the LCD Soundsystem’s frontman and hipster director/writer are good friends and also are conveniently helping each other out with their upcoming projects.

If you’re a fan of James Murphy and his Grammy nominated electro dance-punk band, you already know that LCD Soundsystem’s upcoming album will be coming out sometime in 2010. However, did you know that Noah Baumbach, the writer of upcoming film, Greenberg (starring Ben Stiller) has recruited Murphy for its score?

Yep. According to The Playlist (via Pitchfork), Focus Features will be releasing Baumbach’s Greenberg on March 12th and the word on the street is that this will be around LCD Soundsystem’s new album release date as well. The trailer even points out “new music from James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem.” So not only do LCD Soundsystem fans get the band’s album, but they get an entirely different piece of work by Murphy on another album!

What does this new music to be featured in a film sound like? Murphy has told Drowned in Sound the following about Greenberg‘s soundtrack:

“working on the LCD record, and the shit robot record, as well as scoring a movie for noah baumbach, which has been really fun … i like the director– we’re friends– and we like a lot of the same music, so this has been entirely fun. sounds NOTHING like LCD, really, which cracks us both up. it’s made to fit the movie, not be ‘my record’. but i’m really proud of it.”

Interesting to say the least because it seems to also be a win-win situation for both sides. LCD Soundsystem is introduced into the hipster film crowd, and Noah Baumbach… well… becomes even more hipster. Besides, we all know something like that can work. Just look at Karen O and Spike Jonze!

Check the trailer out below. The 2:30 minute teaser includes LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends,” and you may see a cameo from a certain someone at the 00:25 mark.

What do you think of the trailer? More importantly, what do you think of the pairing of this musician and this screenwriter?
