The Futureheads Return With New Song Giveaway
By Jeffrey Hyatt
Good news for fans of The Futureheads and free MP3 downloads. The band says that until December 2, their new song “Struck Dumb” is available for free on the band’s official site. The song is from the British indie-rock quartet’s forthcoming, as-yet-untitled fourth album – due sometime in 2010. The band’s most recent album, This Is Not The World, was released last year.
The Futureheads are also playing a Christmas show on December 14th at The Lexington in London. Tickets to the show, priced £10, will go on sale tomorrow (November 26th) to everyone signed up to the band’s database, and to the general public on Friday (November 27th).
For the sneak peak at what to expect from new Futureheads, the band actually teamed up with ClashMusic to offer the exclusive, free download.
In between working on new music with his bandmates, Futureheads drummer Dave Hyde also started a solo side-project, a band called Hyde and the Beast; the ‘beast’ in question is bassist Neil Basset of the band The Golden Virgins. The duo plan to release an album on the Futureheads’ own record label Nul Records.
Futureheads guitarist Ross Millard told BBC 6 that Hyde and the Beast are going for a sound that’s a bit different from The Futureheads.
“It’s so good because basically a lot of the stuff that Dave listens to, or loves, or really references is not what people would associate with The Futureheads.
“He is the world’s biggest fan of The Band and The Velvet Underground and a lot of 60s and 70s quirky, almost carnival-esque music and I think that’s what the recordings sound like. Because it is him and it’s got his voice on it and it’s practically all his playing, it’s part of the family now and will be released as such.”
After December 2, “Struck Dumb” will be available for purchase via iTunes.
