Should Beyonce and of Montreal Collaborate?

Should Beyonce and of Montreal Collaborate Should Beyonce and of Montreal Collaborate? Beyonce, the most recent queen of pop – who has nabbed “Woman of the Year” title from Billboard and the subject of Kanye West’s humiliating rant at the MTV Video music awards – may be going out further into the vast ocean of music than we thought she could. She has recently perked the ears of many music critics out there when she recently told The Guardian that she could possibly work with indie pop group, of Montreal.

Who do we have to thank for this? None other than her younger sister, Solange. Not only has little Knowles been in our good graces in the past by introducing Beyonce and Jay-Z to Grizzly Bear then covering Dirty Projectors’ “Stillness Is the Move,” but now this? It just goes to prove that the younger generation isn’t always so naive.

As cliché as it may sound, the act of “broadening your horizons” is usually not a bad thing and Solange has shown this to her older sister. Instead of taking the easy way out and following a mold the mainstream business has so easily set up for them, the Knowles sisters have decided to go down a more unknown path and explore this vague thing called “indie.” A culture where at first may be defined by how many hipster girls and boys are wearing plaid and glass-less frames but really is just the “unknown new.”

After praising the successful pop star, The Guardian went on to ask who Mrs. Hova would still like to work with and voila; we get this answer from the big-time diva:

“There’s so many people I’d like to work with still, but I’d like to maybe go outside of the box. My sister [Solange] has put me on to bands like [indie group] of Montreal and some other different types of artists. I would love to do something like that on my next album.”

TwentyFourBit also reported this but emphasized that Beyonce hasn’t exactly said she would like to work with of Montreal or that it was in the works. However, it is an entertaining thought.

To probe our minds further with this mere possibility, the question doesn’t completely entitle a could either. Instead, it raises the question: “Should Ms. Crazy In Love be working with of Montreal?” She’s a big girl and her husband isn’t exactly someone the media nor the music community hates either. She could more than likely get of Montreal to collaborate.

Pros to this team-up actually happening include the following: Hipsters would actually realize that Beyonce is a talented singer, no matter how much they detest her lavish choreography. Rebellious teens who don’t listen to anything on the radio will learn that Beyonce’s music can also make you jerk around the room due to something called a dance beat. It’s just a little more obvious when it’s not hidden in distortion.

Cons to this becoming an actuality… Well, we can’t seem to really think of any at the moment. It’s not as if Beyonce is trying to grab the rug out from under a band who is one of our favorites (through Sunlandic Twins) already. She’s stepping down into the dingy reality of indie music where it’s the fans who keep the fire burning in all these hole-in-the-wall venues instead of the stadium lights. Also, if she’s getting into bands like Grizzly Bear and of Montreal, how are you going to hate on her?

However, we know not everyone will agree. Should one of the biggest female pop stars even dare request a collaboration with the beloved of Montreal? Let us know what you think.
