Liam Gallagher’s New Band Might Be Called Oasis
By Jeffrey Hyatt
You have to admit, Oasis is a cool name for a band. And this is Liam Gallagher we’re talking about, so it should not be surprising to read the NME report that the lead singer of the now defunct rock band Oasis just might use the namesake for his new band, which features Gem Archer and Andy Bell – who were also part of Oasis!
Coming up with a cool band name cannot be easy, so it’s easy to see why Gallagher might want to pull the famous, rock n’ roll brand name from the trash bin.
Speaking about the name his new band would choose, Gallagher said:
“We’re not using it [the Oasis name] at the moment, but if we don’t come up with something else by the time we’re ready to release the album it’ll be Oasis. I’m not going to call myself something ridiculous just for the sake of it.”
There’s talk that Liam’s new record might get released next year; he does say he and his band are ‘halfway there’ in the early stages of the recording process, with all the songs completed. He also said they had studio time booked for early 2010.
The irascible singer also made it known that the new group wouldn’t play any songs written by his brother Noel Gallagher when they play live, and that he wasn’t even receptive to the idea of speaking to his older brother again. So he and his brother aren’t on good terms and his set-list just got less exciting. That sucks.
Back in August Noel Gallagher has decided to leave Oasis after 18 years. A few months later Liam made it official that Oasis would not go on without Noel, remarking that “Oasis is no longer.”
Since then it’s been a battle of conjecture about what brother was going to do what in their post-Oasis careers. I’m already on record as saying that there most definitely will be a reunion of Noel and Liam, together again as Oasis. There will definitely be downtime, and a lot of tabloid copy along the way, but one day, when the time is right and Wembley Stadium has an opening for a mega concert – go ahead and slot Oasis in there. It’ll be huge.
But there certainly does not seem to be any brotherly love happening right now. That’s too bad, what with it being the holiday season.
Said Liam:
“I’m sure he thinks [of Liam], ‘I’ll do my solo career and if it doesn’t fucking pan out the way it’s expected I’ll give our kid [Noel] a ring because he’ll be desperate and he’ll do anything for Oasis.’
“Well, I’ll say this right now: he’s got another fucking thing coming. If he thinks he can ring me up at any given stage in his fucking lifetime, I’ll be busy. I’ll always be busy when he rings me up.”
How can you not love this guy?! He’s a quote machine.
Liam has said he wants to play live again within “a couple of months.” Maybe they’ll be called the Liam Gallagher Rock n’ Roll Revue or plain, old Oasis, but for sure we’re anxious what his new music will sound like.
Do you think Liam Gallagher should use the name Oasis for his new band?
