Norah Jones Announces Tour Dates For 2010
By Jeffrey Hyatt
Norah Jones is ready for a spring fling. The singer-songwriter is making plans to embark on a 36-city tour, which begins March 5th in Tulsa, Okla. and will run through mid-May. The tour will touch down in big cities like Los Angeles and Chicago, but will also swing by smaller markets like El Paso, Texas and Mobile, Ala.
Jones is touring in support of her fourth studio album, The Fall, released on November 17. The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, her first album not to top the charts from day one.
Check below for the complete tour schedule.
Fans of Norah Jones can also expect to hear three, new remixes from The Fall this week; each will be released in January as digital downloads and on vinyl. The single “Chasing Pirates” will get remixed by Santigold and Beck’s remix crew the Droogs, and “That’s What I Said” gets reworked by Beastie Boys’ Adrock and Mike D.
With a little more roots-rock and a bit less jazz-pop this time around, Jones is garnering a lot of critical praise for her new album – a definite change in direction for the superstar artist. Still dreamy, but a touch darker!
She worked with rock producer Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse, Tom Waits) and enlisted the help of Will Shef (Okkervil River) and Ryan Adams to co-write much of the music on The Fall. Among the talented group of musicians playing on her new album include drummer Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) and James Gadson (Bill Withers), keyboardist James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Al Green) and guitarists Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello) and Smokey Hormel (Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer).
Sticking mostly with small theaters, the Jones tour sets up to be quite an intimate affair, which is probably best for enjoying the singer’s low-key excellence.
Several shows for the 2010 tour go on sale December 4, and the rest will be available before the end of the year.
