Lily Allen Confirms Break From Music, Dives Into Fashion Business Endeavors

Even after her publicist denied the rumors of her quitting music altogether, NME has reported that loud-mouthed and very opinionated British pop star, Lily Allen, will be taking a break for one or two years.

However, this doesn’t necessarily announce a retirement. During this time she will be working on her new record label and dipping into the fashion industry. She’s so determined to take this break and start on her new projects that she’s even canceled her last appearance with Dizzee Rascal on March 7.

Perhaps this slight change in her usual routine is due to her fight with Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien over the Featured Artists Coalition and their attitude over music piracy, but Allen simply told NME that her March 7th gig was “the last thing I’ve got planned. I’m just going to concentrate on doing some behind the scenes sort of stuff.”

She went on to talk about her new record label by saying, “I’m going to get into signing new bands, but at a really early level. I don’t want to compete with other record companies, but I want to support new artists.”

Aside from supporting new acts, she will also be switching from high tops and couture to a more eco-friendly fashion entrepreneurial sense that is also budget-friendly for shoppers. Allen and her sister will be starting a fashion rental store in London called Lucy In Disguise with her sister, Sarah. She explains the process of the store: “It’s about making fashion democratic. That’s the idea behind it. It’s about getting really nice clothes, but letting people rent them for affordable prices so they can go out and feel like a million dollars and it won’t cost them a million dollars.”

How nice of the pop star. It’s also nice to hear about Allen going in new directions instead of going around in circles with feuds or public misdemeanors. In regards to the music piracy fight, she claims, “I’ve stopped everything, I haven’t got a computer and I haven’t got a Blackberry. I don’t do emails or anything now.”

Let’s just see how long she can do some good for her image.
