iPhone Concert To Be Performed By University of Michigan Students

The iPhone can be very beneficial for the person on the go. Many iPhone users claim that there is life before the iPhone and life after the iPhone. The iPhone’s creation has been an icon for this generation and it’s especially helped music lovers.
Several applications allow you to “capture” a song, let you watch a video, or play around with an instrumental game, but one man at University of Michigan has taken it one step further. This man has actually convinced the school to allow students to get school credit by playing on their iPhones all day!
According to Wired, Assistant Professor Georg Essl, has been making music on his phone since 2005 but now he’s got an entire classroom full of young minds who are learning the manipulation between technology and music just by the touch of their fingers. To sum it up, these students are learning how to invent an instrument on an iPhone rather than pick up another application… or a real instrument.
Essl claims that much can be learned from his course because the iPhone is superior in itself as it provides “highly sophisticated blank slate with multiple sensors: a full touchscreen, a microphone, GPS, compass, wireless sensor and accelerometer. “Students are exploring through a small rectangular piece of technology with some supplemental audio tools provided by Essl.
Wired reports that one student “uses the iPhone’s video-savvy screen and microphone to synthetically work the relationship between color and sound. Another student is exploring what the iPhone can do with feedback and distortion.”
Essl is so confident that his class is worthwhile that he and his students are putting on a concert – and yes – with just iPhones. Here is a sneak peek of it below. This is only a rehearsal since the big night actually happens on December 9th at 8Pm in Britton Recital Hall.
The concept seems cool, but would you actually sit through an iPhone concert?
