Picture 13 Poll: Does Anyone Still Care About Green Day?

Last night the nominations for the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards were announced, and the majority of the artists recognized weren’t big surprises. Green Day in particular picked up a few nods for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song for “21 Guns,” and Best Rock Album for 21st Century Breakdown. A few weeks ago they also received recognition from The People’s Choice Awards, and even took home a few MTV VMA’s this year.

Sure critics are all over them, but does anyone else still care about Green Day?

Over the course of their 22-year career, Green Day have been nominated for 15 Grammy Awards, and have won three: Rock Album of the Year for their blockbuster 2004 album American Idiot, Record of the Year for the American Idiot single “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” and Best Alternative Music Performance for their Diamond-certified 1993 album Dookie.

On November 5th, Green Day performed at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards in Berlin. The band was nominated for three awards, “Best Live Act,” “Best Group,” and “Best Rock,” and took home the award for “Best Rock.” They also won an American Music Award in November for Favorite Alternative Rock Music Artist. Now they’ve got three more Grammy nods under their belt and it seems so underwhelming.

Green Day used to be a fan favorite, but now they’re kind of lackluster.

When your stagnant and uninventive you can be considered "tired". That's not the case with Green Day.
They've broadened their music direction and creativity without leaving the soul of their music behind. Because something is "different" or not the "same old thing" is enlightening. I'd rather watch someone grow them get stuck in a 1995 time warp. Their music now is is just as exciting as it ever was and I look forward to Billie Joe's take on current social and political ideas! They rock as much as ever!
