David Bowie Responds to His First Fan Letter
Dec 08, 2009 - By Krystal Clark
David Bowie is a musical legend who’s dabbled in everything the entertainment industry has to offer. He’s done a little music here, and little acting there, but he had to start at the bottom like everyone else. Since his big debut over forty years ago, an interesting piece of Bowie history has surfaced on the net. It’s a response to a 14 year old girl who sent the singer his first fan letter.
Check out Bowie’s response below…
The letter was written as a response to Sandra Dodd, (who was Sandra Adams at the time) a teenage girl and fan of early David Bowie. After reading her fan letter, the singer sent a reply using his manager Kenneth Pitt’s stationary with letterhead and all. It’s dated September 25, 1967 and shows a young and vulnerable Bowie that we’re not used to seeing. In the last paragraph he actually expresses his hope of visiting America one day after watching an old film about American poet Robert Frost and his time in Vermont.
I’m not sure how this letter popped up online, but it’s an interesting read. It allows us to get an inside look at the man behind the persona that is David Bowie.
Here’s the letter:

What do you think of Bowie’s response to the fan letter?
