Vevo Will Be Next MTV According To Music Labels
By Seraphina L.
Vevo, the newest of music video streaming services, has successfully launched today with the help of numerous big-name labels and corporate sponsors. They even managed to convince EMI to join them on the eve of their launch. If EMI, one of the biggest labels out the there, saying yes to Vevo doesn’t tell you that this new streaming site is worth it, plenty of other music labels will tell you again.
According to Reuters, Vevo is so popular labels are banking on it being the next MTV. Vevo now offers more than 30,000 videos on their site for free and all content has been received via labels such as Universal, Sony, EMI Music. The site also contains programing from CBS radio stations and Last.fm which are both owned by CBS Corp. Other supporters include Colgate-Palmolive Co., MasterCard Inc., McDonald’s Corp., and AT&T Inc.
You may say MTV already has all these videos but what all the investors are loving is that the fact that Vevo offers higher production quality and more “top flight artists.” MTV (owned by Viacom) may own a vault of old and new videos, but quality can definitely be kicked up a notch and YouTube (owned by Google) offers High Definition, but we all know these options aren’t always available for each video.
Also carrying original programs by artists, Vevo is straying away from random users and the finance partners are eating that up by paying “$20 to $45 for every 1,000-page views,” according to an interview with Vevo Chief Executive Rio Caraeff. Caraeff also emphasized, “We’re offering advertisers opportunities that they can’t buy off the rack.”
With Apple becoming a “cloud” service thanks to Lala, companies like Vevo are trying to satisfy the current generation with a product that is “MTV for the digital age” as well as promotion for profit.
Do you think Vevo can become the next MTV?
