If you aren’t one of those people who blasts Christmas music right after Halloween, then you may not be a fan of the Christmas classics. There are many alternatives to the traditional renditions. There’s pop music, alternative, and even indie renditions that may perk your ears up a bit more around the holidays. Now, we have the 8 Bit for a Christmas option.

Yes, 8 bit as in music inspired by video games. The good people over at Rush Coil have compiled a very hipster and very NES inspired Christmas soundtrack for the holidays. Songs such as “Deck The Halls,” “O Christmas Tree,” and “Silent Night” are all reinterpreted video game style that takes the electronica genre back in time.

8 Bit Christmas is a full-length of 12 high-quality and DRM-free mp3s and more that may not only entertain listeners with a refreshing take. All net proceeds will also go to Child’s Play!, a charity created by folks of Penny Arcade. According to Rush Coil, “The organization presents hospitalized children around the globe with games and toys during the holiday season.” They’ve already raised over $1,000,000 but good causes like this can always receive more donations.

Are you an 8 Bit enthusiast? Do you just like video games? Perhaps you know a few kids who might like this. Donate just $4 and receive a 12-track 8 Bit Christmas soundtrack and be merry like the Mario Brothers! You can take a listen to sample and donate/buy here.
