Billy Corgan Talks New Single, Guitar Solos, Dave Navarro’s Abs

Billy Corgan hasn’t been in the news since he recruited a 19-year-old drummer but with the upcoming release of Smashing Pumpkins‘ new album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, there has been tons buzz going on for them musician. The news that sets Corgan apart from other album releases is that each track is ridiculously long, the band is releasing one song at a time. The first song, “A Song for a Son” was recently released and it’s one of 44 songs for this “album.” Eventually the album will be split into four different EPs each with 11 songs.

“A Song for a Son” is currently available at Smashing Pumpkin’s official website, but the chatter doesn’t stop there. Corgan recently stopped by the MTV Newsroom to talk about why each song is so massive and how awesome Dave Navarro’s abs are. More after the jump!

Each song on the new album is filled with lengthy and almost over-the-top guitar solos and when MTV asked him why these solos seem to be the focus of the new material, he simply replied with:

“I’m having a strange renaissance with the guitar solo. I think playing with Dave Navarro on the Spirits in the Sky tour reignited my desire to totally go there. He was just kicking my rear all over the place. He’s so good, and it made me get competitive.”

Navarro, who is known for his work with Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and more, is also notorious for his complex guitar riffs which ultimately make them stand out as great solos. Corgan seems to be challenging himself with this new album and is equally excited to share it with his fans. However, when it comes to the ladies, he knows he doesn’t stand a chance against Navarro. He explains:

“You can’t compete with the abs. He’s about the handsomest guy ever — girls are melting over railings to get to him. The solo is the only way to compete!”
