Miley Cyrus Remakes Poison’s ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’
By Jeffrey Hyatt
Miley Cyrus has decided to cover Poison’s “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn.” Cue up the movie 2012 because the world must be close to blowing the hell up. Most artists do end up covering somebody at some point, and lots of times the result is better than the original, but no way can this be a good idea.
Miley should be made to appear on VH-1′s “Rock Of Love” with Poison’s Brett Michaels in order to cover his ’80s rock ballad. People reports Michaels was with Cyrus in NYC for the recording session, and might have even played guitar on the Tween-ed up version, so clearly he’s down with the whole Hannah Montana-meets-Glam Rock thing.
“‘Every Rose’ is one of her all-time favorite songs, and she is really excited about cutting it,” Miley’s mom, Tish Cyrus, told People magazine.
It seems that 17-year-old Miley’s first concert experience, besides seeing dad Billy Ray, was watching Poison in Nashville.
According to MTV, Cyrus is working on her next album, but revealed in an interview with U.K. television show “GMTV” that she’s planning a musical hiatus.
“I want to do my last pop record. I’m working on a record right now,” she told the show.
“I kind of want this to be my last record for a little while and be able to take a break and just get all the types of music that I really love … you know, my favorite styles, because in a few years, as I grow up, so will my fans, and I won’t have to focus on that as much, and I’ll be able to have more of the sound of music that I’m into.”
Good Lord, she’s probably flipping through her Jimi Hendrix CD collection right now, thinking a new take on “Purple Haze” would be awesome for a comeback song whenever her self-imposed musical hiatus ends.
Who knows, maybe the Poison cover will be cool. But not having heard one note, it just feels wrong. What she should really do is go bat-shit crazy and record an entire album of classic, ’80s Hair Metal songs. Now that would be courageous. It might suck, but I’d be writing about it for weeks!
