Concert Picks: The Phenomenal Handclap Band, The London Souls, Princeton…
Friday, December 11, 2009 2:31PM - By Lindsey Darden

We’ve hand-picked a delectable selection to satiate your concert-going cravings this weekend. Check them out below:
- The Phenomenal Handclap Band | Friday, December 11 | 8:00 pm | 18+ | $15 | Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY – Map | A pleasant mix of psychedelics seems to greatly influence the sound of the New York-based band – in fact, the track “You’ll Disappear” makes us want to put on the platforms and bell bottoms and do the hustle. It’s actually a rather fabulous execution of sound (and handclaps), and we’re glad to have been let in. With Javelin and The Eclectic Method – Buy Tickets
- The Capshuns | Friday, December 11 | 9:00 pm | 18+ | $5-$7 | The Echo, Los Angeles, CA – Map | Brit rock to the brim, these fellas – with guitar, drums, dreamy background vocals – save for matching mop tops, we’d be inclined to make an obvious comparison. But we won’t. They’ve already done well enough without it. With Bixby Knolls – for more information, call (213) 413-8200.
- The London Souls | Saturday, December 12 | 8:00 pm | 21+ | $8 | The Cameo Gallery, Brooklyn, NY – Map | Whew, the London Souls are good! Oh, we have to back that up with more info; okay – the local to NY band has a mere two tracks available for streaming on their Myspace, but their afro-punk groove and classic rock influence is all that’s necessary to get our knees knocking. How’s that? With Deadbeat Darling, Drew Nix, and Field Mouse – for more information, call (718) 302-1180.
- Princeton | Saturday, December 12 | 8:30 pm | 21+ | $8 | Spaceland, Los Angeles, CA – Map | And the young adorable talent just keeps coming out of the woodwork. Princeton, where in the world have we been? It’s the live show format that has largely served as a platform with which to broadcast themselves in their early years, all while supporting a number of indie acts. With a sound somewhat akin to the Magnetic Fields and Rufus Wainwright, however, we’re finding it very hard to believe that the local-to-LA band’s debut album was only released this past September. With The Parson Red Heads and The Coals - Buy Tickets
- Shinedown | Sunday, December 13 | 6:30 pm | $30.50 – $33.00 | House of Blues, Chicago, IL – Map | You’ve likely heard the Jacksonville, Florida-based band before – their single “Second Chance” having received serious airplay in recent months – sounding quite like the love child of Metallica and Nickelback, with Incubus as godparent, perhaps? Whatever, whoever, their sound and style seems to pack more than the required amount of punch to put on a decent show for fans and newer listeners alike. With Halestorm and Rev Theory – Buy Tickets
