BeatCrave’s Christmas 2009 Playlist
By Seraphina L.
With Christmas coming up right around the corner, we know some of you may have already started blasting holiday music to get in the mood. Let’s face it, when we’re surrounded by our loved ones around this time of year it’s hard not to be jolly and have a go at songs like “Jingle Bell Rock!” We here at BeatCrave would like to provide you with some rad tunes for the holidays. (It’s the closest thing to a present that you’ll get from us.)
We’ve compiled a playlist for Christmas 2009 and hope you dig it as much as we do. We’ve chosen a variety of styles and covers including Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas, ” John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” and of course some indie tunes as well! Check it all out below!
1. Mariah Carey – All I Want For Christmas Is You
There’s nothing like Mariah Carey’s pop tune to cheer you up as you shop for presents in mall after mall. This song may have been released with a video where her ex-husband played Santa Claus, but it’s still a modern classic!

2. Frank Sinatra – Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
Frank Sinatra will always be a household name along with the rest of the Rat Pack and his vocals can barely contain his excitement for the winter season in this song. We agree, Frank. Let it snow! (Wouldn’t it be great if it snowed in LA?)
Album: Christmas In Love

3. The Raveonettes – The Christmas Song
The Raveonettes are known for their dark surf-pop songs but this Danish duo brightens up a bit for the holidays. Of course, if they’re going to do a Christmas song they’re still going to do it their way. Yay for indie Christmas songs!

4. Sufjan Stevens – O Holy Night
Sufjan Stevens didn’t finish his 50 States project, but when we’re opening presents we want to hear his intricate orchestrations about the holidays instead of Michigan. “O Holy Night” is just one of the many quirky interpretations he’s done for Christmas.

8. Band of Horses – The First Song
Band of Horses may not strike you as the type of band who releases a Christmas album, because they haven’t. However, this is a song that does mention Christmas quite a bit. Although not officially a Christmas song, the signature Band of Horses sound makes this a gorgeous listen that applies to the holidays.
