To cap off a rather tranquil bonkers 2009, singer Amy Winehouse was charged in connection with an alleged assault last weekend at Milton Keynes Theatre in London. The Sun reported that during a production of Cinderella on Saturday, Winehouse, who was in the audience with parents and children, heckled the cast and kept shouting, “He’s f…ing behind you.”

Winehouse went to the police station voluntarily with her attorney on Wednesday and was arrested. She is free on bail and scheduled to appear in court on January 20.

According to reports, Winehouse allegedly refused to be seated as she blocked the view of families by standing up and walking along rows. A Times Online article about the incident noted that police launched the investigation of the singer after theater manager, Richard Pound, complained that Winehouse had pulled his hair, punched him and kicked him when he asked her to move seats.

Winehouse, 26, was charged under the name Amy Civil with a public order offense and common assault.

Along with shouting at Cinderella that Prince Charming is, “f***ing behind you,” Winehouse also called the Ugly Sisters “bitches” and called out to the Prince, “F’*** Cinders, Prince Charming – marry me!’.

And…scene. Thankfully, the Fairy Godmother escaped any verbal attacks.

Any significant commentary about this type of Winehouse behavior is futile. What’s left to be said?! That she didn’t storm the stage and punch Cinderella in the face is what’s really crazy about the whole story. At least kick it up a notch, Amy. But who knew she hated theater people this much?

The singer won five Grammy awards in 2008, which feels like about 50 years ago. Her album Back to Black has sold somewhere around 10 million copies.

Are you at all surprised by Amy Winehouse being arrested for screwing up a perfectly good night at the theater?
