Music Of The Who To Be Honored At Carnegie Hall
Dec 23, 2009 - By Jeffrey Hyatt
A terrific collection of artists will honor the music of The Who on March 2nd at a tribute concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Among the all-star performers paying homage to the legendary band includes Frank Black, Bob Mould, Robyn Hitchcock and The Smithereens. Each artist will perform classic songs from The Who catalog, which should no doubt rock the halls of the famous concert venue. All proceeds fro the show will be distributed to six music education nonprofit organizations.
Check below for a full list of performers scheduled to play the Carnegie Hall Who tribute.
The concert, produced by Knitting Factory founder Michael Dorf, will be the sixth in a series of annual tribute shows to benefit music-education programs for underprivileged youth.
“I grew up listening to The Who,” Dorf said in a press statement, “and, while the artists we’re bringing together to honor them are incredibly diverse, they share a certain authenticity that has also defined music of The Who.”
In addition to R.E.M. and Springsteen, Dorf’s previous tributes at Carnegie Hall have honored the music of Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Elton John.
Said Dorf:
“This series has produced some unforgettable moments, including seeing Bruce Springsteen and R.E.M. make surprise appearances at their own tributes, and I expect The Who night to be one of the most memorable shows yet.”
As mentioned, 100% of the net proceeds from the show benefit six music education nonprofit organizations: Fixing Instruments Kneeded in Schools, Church Street School for Music & Art, The Pinwheel Project, Music Unites All-Youth Choir, The American Symphony Orchestra and Young Audiences New York.

As many as ten more artists will be added to the line-up in the coming weeks.
