Gene Simmons Sued For Alleged Assault
Dec 29, 2009 - By Jeffrey Hyatt
Kiss bassist/reality TV personality/long tongue-having Gene Simmons is back in the news today, which is usually right where the marketing maestro prefers to be.
But unfortunately for the fire-breathing, Dr. Pepper pushing rock star, he’s been hit with a lawsuit. According to Billboard, Nathan Marlowe and his wife, Cynthia Manzo, are suing the 60-year-old for threatening and assaulting them.
The couple claim Simmons lost his cool when they started to film him at a Los Angeles mall last weekend. Apparently the couple were also asking Simmons about his sexual reputation. The twosome said Simmons attacked and threatened them and took their video camera.
No word on whether cameras were also rolling on Simmons’ oh-so riveting reality TV show, Family Jewels.
Matthew Nezhad, the couple’s lawyer, says a police report was filed. The couple has also sought a restraining order against Simmons – but that request was denied.
Why anyone would waste their time filming any celebrity, much less Simmons, walking through a mall is beyond me. Should Simmons have kept composed and not ‘allegedly’ attacked the twosome? Of course. But this kind of intrusive, fan-behavior is annoying. It’s not that Simmons, or any ‘celebrity,’ is above the act of someone trying to score a little digital footage at the mall, but goodness, isn’t there something more exciting happening somewhere, like at the Gap.
As of this writing, Simmons has not been arrested and no charges have been filed. The couple are seeking damages of more than $25,000 for civil claims of assault, battery and infliction of emotional distress.
