BeatCrave’s New Years Roundup
By Seraphina L.
As we said before Christmas break, 2009 has been a great year in music despite the many losses we have had with entertainers. Instead of mourning in sorrow, we can think of the many ways the world has honored musicians such as Michael Jackson, Mary Travers, Patrick Swayze, Jake Brockman, DJ AM, Jay Bennett, Les Paul, Jerry Fuchs, and more.
Plus, we’ve had some amusing (no matter how unfortunate) events that have happened this year: Kanye is still getting heat for traumatizing Taylor Swift, Rivers Cuomo went off into the deep end by endorsing a Weezer snuggie (although we’re glad he’s recovered from his bus accident), Owl City thought he could rip Postal Service off without getting flak and Adam Lambert attempted to break the double standard on national television.
We’ve also had some great breakthroughs for indie artists in 2009. Karen O scored the film for Where The Wild Things Are. Silversun Pickups have been nominated for a Grammy. Sade announced their return with “Soldier Love.” PAVEMENT announced a reunion tour for 2010! If the last one isn’t a miracle, we don’t know what is.
We’ve also been lucky enough to share MANY of our obsessions with you this year. Take a look at it all below! We’ll see you guys in the new year!
