Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz Duet Leaked Online
By Jeffrey HyattNot one week into 2010 and the Michael Jackson PR Machine is in full swing. After the new Michael Jackson song “Another Day” leaked onto the Internet over the weekend, Jackson’s record label, Sony, and the Jackson family have yanked the song. The 10,000 web posts written about the leaked track are fine.
The leak is actually a 90-second snippet of the unmixed tracks featuring Lenny Kravitz, who wrote, produced and plays on the song; Kravitz, who says he doesn’t know who leaked the tune, posted a video statement Monday remarking that the song was not yet finished.
Kravitz explained:
“I just want to reach out to you so I can set the record straight regarding the Michael Jackson track ‘Another Day.’
“As you know and have heard, part of the song leaked — not by me, because mine has been locked up in a vault since we recorded it,” he said. “The version that’s out is a minute and 30 seconds, roughly, of the track — not mixed, but it is the track.”
“Another Day” features Jackson singing a verse which bears a resemblance from a Kravitz song called “Storm,” according to the celebrity gossip website TMZ.
More from Kravitz:
“I don’t know what their purpose is, but that person has nothing to do with the track. It was one of the most amazing musical experiences that I’ve ever had. “It was done by two people who had respect for each other and who love music — that was it.”
Most sane music fans can understand the concept of a song not meant for release, but at this point – so what? Can’t one, unfinished Michael Jackson song get leaked onto the web without a team of lawyers and pissed off Jackson family members going mental at the thought that a small piece of the empire has been released into the world without a price tag affixed to it?
If it’s an acoustic version of “Billie Jean” Jackson recorded 25 years ago with Bob Dylan then fine – I would also want that content to be guarded and released properly. But some unmixed jam with Kravitz that leaks shouldn’t require code red action.
