It’s almost here! In March, a Pavement compilation album will be released to kick off the new decade! Although it’s not a greatest hits or a new album, we’re glad Pavement is doing any type reunion at all and we can’t say much about how they want to release an album during this brief but glorious time.
The compilation album is titled Quarantine of the Past: The Best of Pavement, but keep in mind that it’s not a greatest hits album. So what are they considering the best of their repertoire and more importantly, what have you got to do with the track listing? Find out after the jump!
According to Pitchfork, the compilation album will be released March 9 in the US via Matador (March 8 in the UK) to celebrate the commencement of their massive reunion tour (dates are listed below). You can start pre-ordering here, since it’s not even a question. The album will be 23 tracks long and although it will not include any unreleased material like the band hoped it would, Matador’s blog post says that “it definitely digs deeper than the hits.”
However, the track listing is still a cloud of mystery, because Matador is currently holding a short contest before they unveil their selections. How can you be a part of this? Try and guess the 23 track listing! The only thing we know now is that the first track is “Gold Soundz” but what are the rest? Here are the official rules:
Prizes will be awarded as follows:
FIRST PRIZE for the track listing closest to the actual track listing
SECOND PRIZE for the most imaginative track listing
FOUR RUNNERS-UP in either of the above two categories (4 runner-up prizes total)
First prize will be a pair of tickets, with flights and hotel rooms, to see Pavement at Central Park Summerstage on Tuesday, September 21, 2009 2010. Plus a complete set of Pavement Matador 12″ vinyl.
Second prize will be having your track listing pressed up in a special limited-edition vinyl double LP for Record Store Day (April 17). You will receive 5 copies of your best of selection. Plus a complete set of Pavement Matador 12″ vinyl.
Runner-up prizes will be complete sets of Pavement Matador 12″ vinyl.
To participate, please make your choice of 23 tracks (remember, the first one is “Gold Soundz”) below – click on the ALBUM COVER to get started:
Matador also states that they will be releasing Pavement’s complete Matador LP catalog which includes the “Watery, Domestic” 12″ EP) on L(ow) P(rice) vinyl. Here are a few more additional hints:
- 3 pre-Matador tracks are included
- Plus one song that originally came out on a compilation
- Every Matador album is represented, plus Watery, Domestic
The deadline for this rad contest is two weeks from today, Tuesday, January 19!
Pitchfork also reports that more US dates will most likely be added to the tour schedule, which makes us happy. A mere possibility that they might be playing Coachella certainly isn’t enough. New York gets four dates. Why can’t the west coast have the same amount? See if any of your cities are already included in this massive tour schedule and grab an mp3 of “Gold Soundz” below!
