The Rolling Stones Won’t Play At Glastonbury 2010
By Jeffrey HyattNot only are The Rolling Stones NOT playing the 40th anniversary of the Glastonbury Festival this year, but the venerable rock band also have zero plans to tour at all in 2010.
The Stones had been rumored for a headline slot on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, set to take place June 23-27 at Worthy Farm. Maybe next year.
An official statement issued Monday by The Rolling Stones press office said:
“Following recent UK media speculation, The Rolling Stones would like to make it clear, there are no plans at the moment for the band to tour in 2010.”
But all is not lost for The Stones in 2010, tour or no tour. The band are set to release a reissue of their 1972 classic Exile On Main Street in May; the updated collection of the legendary double-album features plenty of unreleased songs – including “Plunder My Soul,” “Following The River” and “Sophia Loren.”
U2 are the only headline act to be confirmed for the June event so far, with Dizzee Rascal and Will Young also said to be on the bill.
I’ll go on record and say The Stones will perform at some point in 2010. That’s what they do, tour and make lots of money. Whether or not Ronnie Wood’s recent problems have anything to do with the band remaining non-committal on touring is unknown, but I have to believe if Mick Jagger calls and demands you get your shit together because there are stadiums that need to be filled to hear the rockers blaze through “Satisfaction” for the 2 millionth time then surely Wood can get it together. Or maybe the guys don’t really want to play “Satisfaction” again, ever.
I still think a small, acoustic tour featuring obscure tunes from the band’s catalog is the way to go. That’s just me.
Do you care if The Rolling Stones tour in 2010?
