This week, a lot of musical artists have dipped into the world of film to help score some of the most anticipated projects of the year. Just yesterday we found out that Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D. will write original music for the animated feature, Despicable Me, and now the band Muse is following suit.

Update: Muse will not compose the score for Clash of the Titans. The film’s director Louis Leterrier recently gave an update on who will take on composition duties for the film. Please check out Muse Not Scoring Clash of the Titans for more info.

Here’s the original post…

This March, Warner Bros will release the long awaited remake of the 1980′s classic, Clash of the Titans. The film’s currently in post production and features Avatar star Sam Worthington in the lead role as Perseus. According to Spinner, word on the street has Muse listed as the new scorers for the film. The trio will pen original music for the Louis Leterrier piece, and frontman Matt Bellamy had a lot to say regarding their latest gig.

“It’s something we’re up for doing,” frontman Matt Bellamy told the Daily Star. “It’s just a case of timing because we’re always on tour. Clash of the Titans is the first interesting offer we’ve had for film work,” Bellamy continued. We’re definitely interested in writing for films at some point when we get a break from the road.”

They have less than three months to get the music together, and that’s a tight deadline for a film of this stature. Since Bellamy stated that their interested in doing film work down the line, it makes me wonder if they already have some songs in their arsenal. Will they have a finished product in time for the movie’s premiere?

This had to be in the works for a long time and now is just being announced, most of the music must already be done. 3 Months is not enough time even for Muse. Perhaps Muse already had done more work than we thought with the 40 piece orchestra they used to make The Resistance. Either way it will be good since excellence is all I have seen come out of the band.
