Billy Corgan Starts A New Record Label
By Jeffrey HyattBilly Corgan is planning to launch a new record label that will release new material from ’70s L.A. punk band the Germs, plus more obscure, eclectic acts like the Electric Prunes, Fancy Space People and Strawberry Alarm Clock, among others.
LA Weekly‘s Off the Record blog noted that Corgan will team up with frequent collaborator Kerry “Studio Dog” Brown to steer the as-yet-unnamed record label.
Via Brown’s Twitter message:
Billy and I are happy to announce the birth of our record label! The name of the label will be made public soon.
(We need to make sure that we have the name rights before we can announce it.)We are very excited to be collaborating with amazing artists that have made a huge impact on the underground music world… From the psychedelic garage rock of the 60′s and the punk rock insanity of the 70′s and 80′s to the post-punk Pleiadian power-pop that is now.
Oh, and apparently Corgan and Jessica Simpson are dating. Really?
Spin clues us in on the fact that Corgan is also working on Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, a free, 44-song Smashing Pumpkins album he plans to release over the next few years, one track at a time. The first track, “A Song for a Son,” surfaced in December. Speaking of the Pumpkins, the band spent most of ’09 working on new songs, but not touring. Hopefully we’ll see some tour dates in 2010.
And when hes not hanging out with Simpson (really?), Corgan is working on Everything from Here to There, a blog where he posts his thoughts about stuff – stuff like spirituality and other far-out-man stuff.
