Mariah Carey Explains Outlandish Speech

Just when we thought we were done with “crazy Mariah Carey” the outlandish alter ego of the Grammy winning singer decided to rear her head at the Palm Springs Film Festival. The singer turned actress has a supporting role in the acclaimed Lee Daniels film Precious, and won an award for her performance. When she went to accept it, all hell broke loose when she went into a random rant of giggles and pauses.

Carey won the Breakthrough Actress award at the film festival, and was presented the honor by Daniels. This sounded like an amazing opportunity for the singer to give thanks to the director and the film community for taking notice of her work. Too bad the moment was ruined by the poorly planned speech that followed.

Last night the singer won a People’s Choice Award for Best R&B singer and did some major rumor control regarding the Palm Springs event.

“The thing is me and Lee hadn’t see each other in a long time, and then he was presenting my award, so he starts off immediately with inside jokes. We had splashes of champagne, and I love Lee but he’s a bad influence,” the singer said and laughed. If people don’t understand me and think I’m just like this girl that stands by a microphone and sings ‘Hero,’ then they’re definitely not going to get me,” she explained. “But if people knew me better, they would understand I have a sense of humor, and basically that’s what gets me through life.”

Not to put Mariah on the spot, because there are a lot of entertainers who seriously need to put themselves in check every once in a while. But she’s almost 40 years old and behaving in that manner amongst your professional peers is nothing to laugh off.
