The Smithsonian may be honoring the King of Rock and Roll today but for Elvis Presley‘s 75th birthday, musician Lightspeed Champion (aka Dev Hynes) has offered us a free download and a video.

The track is a cover of Presley’s 1963 song, “(You’re the) Devil in Disguise,” and it manages to stay true to the sound of the 60s but we also hear Hyne’s baroque and folk pop touch on his spin. Take a listen below!

The track can also be heard and downloaded over at his SoundCloud page. There has been a surge of artists putting their new songs up on this site, and we hope more musicians choose to do so. The visuals are a nice touch and the sound quality is top notch. Hynes told NME that the song was recently recorded in a session in New York and is also just the first of many free downloads in a series Hynes will be offering:

“Due to a popular band having leftover studio time at New York’s historic Avatar Studios, I had the opportunity of going into Studio A to record some music… Obviously I decided an Elvis song would be best [...] I got my friends from the band Spacecamp down and together we recorded an ‘almost’ live version of ‘Devil In Disguise’ with the help of whoever was in the building that felt like singing…including the receptionist. Happy Birthday Elvis! Long live the king!”

That’s not all. Hynes (who was briefly a member of Florence + The Machine) has also made a fun video to go along with the cover. How can we entice you to watch it? Two words: Gold catsuit. Check it out below!

Hynes/Lightspeed Champion’s latest album, Life Is Sweet! Nice To Meet You, is currently out via Domino Records.

What do you think of Lightspeed Champion’s birthday gift to Elvis?
