A musical legend named Elvis Presley was born 75 years ago, in Tupelo, Mississippi and changed the world forever. On his birthday’s anniversary, the Smithsonian Institution is showcasing the King’s ubiquitous image (and influence) through exhibits opening today in both Washington and Los Angeles.

In Washington, One Life: Echoes of Elvis will be on display at the National Portrait Gallery. The exhibit is one-room devoted to the evolution and influence of Presley’s image after his death. All over the walls are portraits, images from Graceland (Elvis’ mansion and home), and Elvis merchandise from lunch-boxes to action figures. The room’s like a shrine to the Rock’ n’ Roll legend.

Something also worth mentioning is the gold bust of Elvis as Julius Caesar by sculptor Robert Arneson, which you’ll be able to see at the Washington location. In Los Angeles, the Grammy Museum will feature photos of a young Elvis in the exhibit, Elvis at 21: Photographs by Alfred Wertheimer. The photojournalist was hired to capture the singer’s life before he became famous.

Both exhibits will start on Friday and continue on through August.
