Simon Cowell Quits American Idol

Simon Cowell has finally followed through on the threat he’s been sitting on for the past few season’s of “American Idol.” According to People Magazine, the judge of the popular Fox series has decided to leave the show after the end of this season. The reason behind Cowell’s departure has to do with the U.S.premiere of “The X-Factor,” which is the British version of “Idol.”

He recently spoke to reporters regarding his decision to the leave his judging position on the show and stated it was because of “The X Factor’s” 2011 launch. Cowell will be an executive producer and judge on the American version of the series.

He stated, “I’m thrilled that we have put a date on the launch of the U.S. version of “The X Factor,” and delighted to be continuing to work with FOX,” Cowell said in a statement. We have a fantastic relationship, a great team and are all very excited about this.”

I’m genuinely confused because I thought “American Idol” was “The X-Factor” just with a different name? Why would they put on two shows so closely related to one another. Aren’t they afraid that they’ll cancel each other out, especially with Simon on board as one of the show’s judges. This sounds like saturation city in a market that’s already filled to the brim with sub-par reality shows.
