We previously reported that the trio Muse was set to compose the score for the upcoming Louis Leterrier film, Clash of the Titans. The announcement was a bit premature, and the story has been debunked by the director himself. According to a recent interview in Spinner, he set the record straight on how the rumor began, and what’s actually going on with the project.

It turns out that Leterrier is a huge fan of the band, and is especially fond of their front man Matt Bellamy. That’s one of the ways the rumor got started, because the director and the singer recently chatted about the possibility of working together on a future project. Bellamy actually composed some songs to be used on the Titans‘ soundtrack but there were a few creative differences that kept them from making it into the film.

“It was not Muse ever,” the film’s director Louis Leterrier recently revealed to MTV (via Spinner). “It was [frontman] Matt Bellamy. I love Muse, I’m the biggest Muse fan ever, but I wanted something a little different. [Matt] wrote a lot of stuff, but he started his tour. So not so long ago, he called me and he was like ‘Louis, I’m so sorry. I have to be respectful to my audience and professional and I have to stop on Clash.’”

The score will be done by Craig Armstrong, and Neil Davidge from Massive Attack will takeover in the areas that Bellamy was originally set. Even though they won’t work together on this film, Letterier says that he still has Matt’s music on his computer and plans on using it for something in the future.

What do you think about Massive Attack’s Neil Davidge taking on Bellamy’s duties? Do you think he can handle the job?
