Weezer Returns To The Stage Work On Shrek Song Weezer Returns To The Stage, Work On Shrek Song

It’s been a whirlwind of year for Weezer. They’ve been pretty successeful with all their crazy ideas such as naming their album Raditude, using a flying dog on the cover art, not only endorsing but making their own Snuggie, rocking out as giant bugs for Yo Gabba Gabba! and more. However, the end of the year took an unfortunate turn when Weezer’s front man, Rivers Cuomo, was injured in a severe bus accident while they were out on tour.

Although Cuomo was released from the hospital shortly after, doctors told him he needed more time to recover before he hit the stage again. The rest of the year end’s tour dates were canceled. However, Weezer is all set to go back on the road now. That’s not all they’re up to either.

According to a blog post on Weezer’s MySpace page (via Pitchfork), their first performance since the accident will take place at Florida State University in Tallahassee. As winners of a T-Mobile contest, the university will also get a famous celebrity DJ opener. If you’ve seen a recent cover of Billboard Magazine with Rivers Cuomo and rapper/producer Jermaine Dupri standing in a ridiculous post together, it shouldn’t be a surprise he is the DJ they are talking about. Dupri is just one of the many acts Weezer or Cuomo has been working with this past year. Others include Katy Perry and Adam Lambert.

It also sounds like they’ll be collaborating with some of the big execs for a “major motion picture soundtrack.” We know it’s not Alice in Wonderland. Weezer’s blog post kept the name of the film unknown but we all now know that the movie is Shrek Forever After because Cuomo recently tweeted, “Just got to the studio…working on the SHREK song!!!!” Obviously, he can’t keep a secret.

Because Weezer has been on tour for a good chunk of the year prior to the bus accident, there won’t be any shows for a while. The first show to follow Tallahassee is Bamaboozle Music Festival in New Jersey which isn’t until May. No worries though; they’re giving fans a few things to hold on to during the break.

Pitchfork also reports that Weezer is reissuing two pieces of work. The first is the Pinkerton Deluxe Issue, which they are supposedly wrapping up for release. The second is an “odds and ends” collection titled Odds and Ends. The third is a reissue of another popular record – Universal will be releasing a Rarities Edition which includes Weezer’s Blue Album. According to Pitchfork, the Blue Album reissue is basically the bonus disc for the double-disc reissue of self-titled Weezer debut.

So if you’ve been missing your Weezer fix, you’ve got plenty of other things to tide you over.

What do you think of Weezer returning and working on a Shrek song?
