Will U2 Win The Oscar For Best Song?

Will U2 Win The Oscar For Best Song Will U2 Win The Oscar For Best Song?

Director Jim Sheridan thinks so.

After losing out to singer Ryan Bingham and his theme from the film Crazy Heart in the Best Song category at Sunday’s Golden Globes, Sheridan figures Bono and Co. are still a safe bet to take home the Oscar at next month’s 82nd Annual Academy Awards. U2’s song “Winter” appears in Sheridan’s latest film Brothers.

“I’m sorry the lads didn’t win a Golden Globe but I think there’s a good chance they could get an Oscar instead for Best Song,” Sheridan told the Irish Independent.

Does Sheridan have any inside scoop on the awards? Probably not, but at least he’s being extra supportive of the band who surely wouldn’t mind taking home the Oscar statue.

The collaboration between Sheridan and U2 came about after the director showed the band an early cut of the film, which stars Natalie Portman, Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal. Brothers is a remake of the 2004 Danish film Brodre, a story of a decorated marine who goes missing overseas while his younger brother cares for his wife.

Besides denying U2 their Globes glory, Bingham also beat out Maury Yeston (Nine), Paul McCartney (Everybody’s Fine) and James Horner (Avatar) for the Best Song award.

It certainly would not be shocking if U2 did win the Oscar, considering there must be a contingent of voters (and TV/Academy execs) who would love to not only have the mega-popular band in attendance during the March 7 telecast, but to also get Bono up on stage for a rousing (or exasperating, depending on who you talk to) acceptance speech.

Do you care whatsoever who wins Best Song at the Oscars next month?
