Poll: What Do You Think Of Prince’s Purple and Gold?
The Super Bowl is less than a month away and many are excited for the big event which will happen on February 7th. These many people include musician, Prince. Apparently, he was so excited about Minnesota Vikings’ big win last weekend that he went ahead and wrote a fight song for the team to get everyone pumped up.
The song is titled, “Purple and Gold,” and it has gotten everyone talking about its strength or lack of strength for a football fight song. There have been a few good reviews of the song, but there have mostly been negative reviews. Minnesota’s own Pioneer Press goes as far to call it “Purple and Mold.”
One positive review came from MTV’s Kyle Anderson says the song, “eschews Prince’s signature funk rock in favor of a true fight song, the type of thing you hear crooned at English soccer matches or at Ivy League football games.”
However, many people disagree. Rant Rave states the opposite with the description, “It’s lyrics may induce vomiting.” Harsh, but just because Prince is a superstar doesn’t mean he can write the perfect fight song. It’s a bit of a stretch from the “Purple Rain” hit.
What do you think? Did Prince do a good job? Listen below and vote to let us know!

First, let me state emphatically that I love Prince; he is a singer/songwriter/guitar player/producer royalty descended from pop rock gods. However, Purple and Gold is nearly unlistenable. It needs more of a rock tempo, and needs bolder vocals. Really it needs more than those two things, but fixing those would be a start. You're Prince for god sake, AND you're crafting a FIGHT song! Kick out the friggin' jams!
