Bob Dylan, Jennifer Hudson Booked For White House Civil Rights Music Celebration
By Seraphina L.Michelle Obama is doing all she can to promote the arts from the White House and we applaud her efforts. Earlier in the year, she emphasized how important music education was with her night of classical music held in the White House. However, with February coming up and having Black History Month hitting more at home with her family, next month will feature musical artists from all genres singing songs about civil rights.
According to USA Today, artists who are booked to play the concert at the White House in the East Room include Bob Dylan, Jennifer Hudson, John Mellencamp, Smokey Robinson, John Legend, Seal, the Blind Boys of Alabama and more. Morgan Freeman and Queen Latifah will both be emcees for the night. The event will also feature readings from celebrated speeches and authors that have made an impact during the civil rights movement.
The concert’s official title is currently “A Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement” and will be held on February 10 then air on PBS on February 11.
Prior White House music series performances focused on classical, jazz, latin, and country music.
Will you be tuning into PBS on Februrary 11 to celebrate Black History Month with the Obamas?
