Poll Was Fever Ray Crazier Than Lady Gaga During Her Acceptance Speech Poll: Was Fever Ray Crazier Than Lady Gaga During Her Acceptance Speech?A few days ago, everyone was talking about the photo of Fever Ray which surfaced online. In this photo, Fever Ray is accepting a speech for her award at the P3 Guld Public radio award show. As you see in the photo on the left, she is wearing a mask that makes face look as if it were melting. It’s a bit kooky and a bit scary.

Now, we have a video of Fever Ray walking up to the stage from her seat. She has her face covered until she unveils the melted-face mask right before her acceptance speech. The only thing is, her acceptance speech managed to be more frightening and awkward than the mask! Watch the video below to get what we mean.

In this video (via P4k), Fever Ray sounds like she’s about to make out some words, but it doesn’t actually happen and we are left with the sounds that make us think of something dying. After a few awkward seconds of that noise (or “language”), she hands the microphone back, pulls her red shawl back down (which is part of some sort of headdress), and walks away with her award. We wish we could see more reactions from the audience, but we’re pretty sure they didn’t know how to react either.

The red headdress and the general strangeness of all it reminds us of Lady Gaga‘s acceptance speech from the 2009 MTV VMA Awards. Lady Gaga, too, had to unveil her face but we think we can all agree Lady Gaga’s natural face was a lot more pleasant than what Fever Ray offered us. Lady Gaga also spoke English in her speech. If you want to refresh your memory, this clip below provides a snippet of Gaga in the red crown.

Now that you’ve seen both acceptance speeches, we want to know… Has Fever Ray overshadowed Lady Gaga with hers?

Fever Ray's style was far from a welcoming sort of weird, like Lady Gaga's fashions tend to be. I mean, while Gaga's not the typical, perfectly-coifed starlet coached in posing pr what to say, etc (and that's preferred by me), she's at least got a personable vibe about her. Fever Ray was just scary, but I'm sure it was deeper than that.

We're only comparing the two because of the red. That being said, Fever Ray was much more interesting than Gaga because of the melted mouth mask and the possible politcal meaning behind it. BTW after the show, there was an interview with a Swedish show afterwards and the interviewer couldn't get Fever Ray to say a word. That is commitment.

You can't even begin to compare Lady Gaga and Fever Ray. Lady Gaga is doing all the things she does to get attention and to have the spotlight focused on her. Her music is not original at all, and her choreographed dances and skimpy clothes make her just the same as any other american pop artist.

Fever Ray on the other hand is all about the music. I read an interview about her and she said she wants to reamin mysterious and play with fear. She doesn't think the performers appearance ahould get in the way of the music. She is an amazing innovative woman.

Lady Gaga isn't even on the same level as Fever Ray.

Fever Ray's music is not commercialized pop crap. There is meaning behind what she is doing unlike Gaga who is doing all her so called "outrageous" things for the spotlight. With her skimpy clothes and choreographed dances she is far from original.

While Fever Ray's focus us on the music…..Gaga's focus is me me me me.

Lady Gaga is waaaay better than that piece of crap Fever Ray.
Yeah she's been around longer than Gaga, but she is the one
    who wants the attention.

    @Yeah
You have no taste in music

I object to the term crazy. Karin knew what the fuck she was doing and it was a bold statement NOT some delusional flight of fancy. Also Lady Gaga is only weird for the attention she gets from it. She also has vocal talent but for some reason uses it rarely in concert and seemingly never on her albums. Can you say sell out?

    Lady Gaga = Fauxvant Garde
Karin Dreijer Andersson = Avant Garde

karin is far more sincere and more of an artist than gaga could ever dream of being; gaga is the mainstream's plastic wet dream, karin is the real thing. so no, her outfit wasn't crazier, it was an actual statement.

Wow funny how atom sized people post topics like this on their sites. First off Karin (fever ray) was making a statement on how muslim woman have acid thrown in their faces for reasons including not wearing a burqa. She was bringing a horrible fact to the world. Lady gaga on the other hand just wants attention with her trashy outfits.

    wow, idiots all of you.
fever ray looks this way because in the middle east, muslim women who do not wear hajabs (the cloth that covers alll of their hair) have acid poured on their heads. she speaks this way because once acid is thrown on ur head, you cant speak.
it is an insult to her that everyone laughed.

You cant really compare the two though, they both dressed up like they did for different reasons. Fever Ray to make a political statement and raise awareness for the poor woman who have acid pored on their face as a punishment in the Middle East. That is what they look like afterwords, most can not see, hear or speak and are disabled for life, why people would laugh and applause at that I have no idea. While Gaga just dresses up for the attention and "shock factor". In my mind neither was "crazier" just done for two different reasons, one to entertain and one to stand up for others in pain.

Anyone who knows her work knows that it's one of her characters. She's stated in interviews for both The Knife and Fever Ray that dressing up and making a sort of theater production out of her videos is a natural course to her that comes with expressing the meaning behind her songs. This character can be seen in the STRANGER THAN KINDNESS video, as well as the background of a few others.
It's not my favorite character (there's a scarier one that I love the design of) but it's her choice. So it would seem weirder to her fans and those in the music industry that know her to accept an award for 'Fever Ray' while not representing Fever Ray. Why accept an award as Karen Dreier?
