Pete Doherty Drops Heroin Bag In Courtroom

Pete Doherty never seems to lead a normal life. There is always some type of drama inflicting his daily habitual habits whether it be drugs, alcohol, or a crazy ex-girlfriend who is a supermodel (Kate Moss). Doherty is currently the lead singer of the British group, Babyshambles, but he first gained fame with his band, The Libertines.

We recently announced that there may be a possible Libertines reunion in 2011, but by the looks of how events in his life are just going in a downward spiral, we’re not too sure if that is a legitimate possibility anymore.

According to Reuters, Doherty was recently in court before Christmas to pay his fines for careless driving, but just as he was being escorted out of the room, a bag full of heroin, worth more than 200 pounds, fell out of his pocket. Of course, he was arrested right away and hit with the charge of possession of an illegal drug.

It’s pretty bad when you are convicted of another crime even before you leave the room. Is this tough luck or just idiocy? Joti Boparai, a flabbergasted judge, expresses concerns by saying “Either this was sheer stupidity or a ploy to get more publicity.” It’s hard not to side with Boparai with Doherty’s track record.

Doherty was fined 750 pounds and 85 pounds in costs. Boparai also suggested that Doherty immediately pay the fine since he didn’t think Doherty’s ignorance was worth the public’s time and money to hold another court date for the rock star’s drug possession.

How does Doherty feel about this fast slip-up? According to his lawyer, Bruce Clark, Doherty felt “very stupid.” Not only is that an obvious observation, but Clark also goes on to defend his client by saying that Doherty didn’t know the heroin was in his pocket.

“He has a great many items of clothing — suits and clothes going into the hundreds. There were residual drugs which he had left in one coat pocket. He didn’t necessarily choose the coat for himself [...] He is a recovering heroin addict and has received some very sophisticated medical treatment. He had been an addict for some years and is a very well known, famous musician with a huge international reputation.”

Clark also went on to say that Doherty had been taking medication that canceled the effects of heroin and that it had been working for him.

We want to believe Clark and hope the best for Doherty, but this mistake was just too easy to make.
