General Larry Platt became an overnight sensation with his song, “Pants on the Ground” which he performed for the judges on American Idol. Randy bopped his head, Kara smiled out of confusion, Mary J. Blige roared with laughter, and Simon made a very true statement: “I have a horrible feeling that song could be a hit.”

Although the General from the Atlanta auditions claimed he had written the song, there is another elderly rap duo by the name of Green Brothers who say his song was inspired by their song, “Back Pockets on the Floor.” According to Yahoo’s Reality Rocks, the hip-hop pair from Michigan declare that their song was written in 1996 which is 13 years before the Idol audition with Platt.

Although the video below was just posted on January 23, the info from YouTube states the following:

“This is in regards to the General Larry Platt ‘Pants on The Ground.’ His song is a take off of the Green Brothers song ‘Back Pockets On The Floor.’ ‘Back Pockets On The Floor’ was written by G. Green and was copyrighted and recorded by the Green Brothers in 1996. The General’s song have the same intent, idea and in part the same message. YOU BE THE JUDGE AMERICA!!”

Watch and be the judge, America…

Yes, there is a similar flow about the same subject – encouraging kids to not fall into the gangster style – but the Green Brothers’ song has a much slower beat lacking the punch General Larry Platt offered during his audition. In case you need a refresher, here’s a video of the General singing “Pants on the Ground.”

What do you think? Did General Larry Platt plagiarize the Green Brothers?

Really???? Songs have the same kind of message and wording all the time. If one has success and the other one doesn't, that's just the way it is. That's show biz. If you want to be a part of it you must accept it, the public are finicky!

i think they're two different songs that sound similar. the green brothers' message is "what kind of example are you being if you've been doing drugs and stuff?" while general platt is simply saying "you look like a fool with your pants on the ground."
and also as time goes on it's hard to come up with your own completely original lyrics. you think you've got something original and then you hear a song or read a book that has the same words as you wrote, so i say don't be quick to judge.

well i think the pants on the ground song is more upbeat and more of a earworm…if u know what i mean.besides the pocket on the floor version does not have the same wording.i have not heard ones that they say the gold in the mouth…lol.just a opinion from germany.the song made it all the way over here and its gonna be a hit….
