Grizzly Bear have become quite the music story thus far at the Sundance Film Festival. The band are responsible for contributing music for two films screening at the festival, including Jack Goes Boating, a movie starring Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman. The film also marks Hoffman’s directorial debut.

TwentyFourBit notes that it’s still unclear how much of the soundtrack Grizzly Bear will be responsible for; as of now they share music credit with composer Evan Lurie. However, Prefix mentions Jack features upwards of five Grizzly Bear songs in the soundtrack.

A Hollywood Reporter review of Jack Goes Boating points out the band had, indeed, provided music for the film.

The impressionistic mood of the film is greatly enhanced by a gentle, piano-centric score by Even Lurie coupled with the feathery, cerebral harmonies of the Brooklyn band Grizzly Bear.

Grizzly Bear are also contributing tunes to another new film, Blue Valentine, which stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams and premiered this week at Sundance.

Grizzly Bear released their highly praised third album, Veckatimest, last year, but looks like the Brooklyn, NY band have become something of a soundtrack darling, their sophisticated indie-rock style fitting in nicely with the craft of moviemaking.
