Sigur Rós On Hiatus, New Album Shelved
Jan 28, 2010 - By Jeffrey HyattSigur Rós are shutting it down – at least for the time being. Sigur Rós frontman Jonsi Birgisson has revealed that the Icelandic group is now on an indefinite hiatus.
They even tossed out the work they’ve done on a new album, a follow-up to 2008’s Með Suð I Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust.
“We haven’t got another [Sigur Ros] album ready – It was just a rumour,” Birgisson told SpinnerMusic.co.uk. “We started to record something, but then we chucked it all away. So I think we are going to have to start it all again.”
The news is somewhat of a surprise considering the 4-piece outfit had recently posted an update about the progress of a new, full-length album on their website, writing that the album was “nearing completion.”
Meanwhile, Jonsi Birgisson will release his debut solo album Go on March 22.
Birgisson confirmed the band’s hiatus by adding,
“Yes we are on a break at the moment. Everybody in the band is having babies.”
At the same time?! Talk about great scheduling. So with all this Sigur Rós baby-making currently getting in the way of any creative music being recorded, looks like for the time being you’ll just have to get your lush, Icelandic post-rock elsewhere.
