The Bird And The Bee Plan Hall Oates Tribute Album The Bird And The Bee Plan Hall & Oates Tribute Album

If you plan on covering Hall & Oates then by goodness make extra sure it’s going to be good. Make that great; the pop music legends deserve nothing less. Hard to believe the latest project by another duo, the Bird and the Bee, won’t be up to the musical task with the release of Guiltless Pleasures Volume 1: A Tribute To Daryl Hall And John Oates, an album of eight covers taken from the Hall & Oates songbook.

The album is scheduled for release on March 23 via the Blue Note label.

Singer Inara George and instrumentalist Greg Kurstin have chosen some true, Hall & Oates classics. No doubt they will take proper care of “Sara Smile” and “One on One,” just to name a couple.

But fans of Hall & Oates should be quite comfortable with George and Kurstin covering their classic music; the indie-pop duo have just the right blend of cool sophistication and jazzy style to make some of Darryl Hall and John Oates’ most famous pop tunes dazzle in a new light.

“There’s definitely no irony,” insists Bird And Bee multi-instrumentalist Greg Kurstin. “They’re great songwriters, and these are great songs.”

There’s also a new track included with the 8 covers, “Heard It On the Radio.”

To get ready for the release of the tribute album, George and Kurstin are scheduled to perform many of the Hall and Oates’ finest hits at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles on March 5th.

Kurstin will also be attending the Grammys this weekend where he is nominated for Producer Of The Year for his work on Lily Allen’s It’s Not You, It’s Me.

Do you think the Bird and the Bee Hall & Oates cover album will be any good?

I've heard their cover of "Private Eyes", and it's quite well done. I didn't believe anyone could equal Hall and Oates' performance, but these two come pretty darn close. I have faith that the rest of the album will be just as delightful.
