We Are The World 2010 Includes Lady Gaga, Jason Mraz, Bono
By Seraphina L.We previously informed you about Quincy Jones’ quest to re-record the 1985 hit, “We Are the World.” Jones produced the song which Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote together and it became an instant classic when all three invited singers from every genre to record for the benefit of USA For Africa.
Now, after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Jones and Richie have rounded up some of the biggest stars of the current generation to lend their talents to great use and make a difference once again.
According to E! and MTV, Jones did quite a bit of recruiting during the Grammys. The music session to take place a day after the award ceremony seemed to be the bigger event than the one that was actually going on. Just last night, Jones has recruited Lady Gaga, Jason Mraz, Akon, Jennifer Hudson, Carlos Santana, Enrique Iglesias, Trey Songz, Stevie Wonder, Bono, Usher and Toni Braxton.
Both Lionel Richie and other producers who were asked to join felt another historic moment was in the making and were touched more than flattered to be able to take part in the re-recording. RedOne, a frequent collaborator of Gaga’s, said the following statement which anyone may find hard not to believe about pop music: “It’s like the biggest honor in life to get a call from our father in music, Quincy Jones.”
The complete roster may even add up to more than 100 artists. Other musicians who have been linked to the re-make but not officially confirmed for the public include:
Tony Bennett, Pink, Natalie Cole, Justin Timberlake, Carrie Underwood, Kanye West, Eminem, Jay-Z, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Fergie, Wyclef Jean, Rob Thomas, Brandy, Julianne Hough, will.i.am, T-Pain, Randy Jackson, Gladys Knight, Keri Hilson, Faith Evans, Nancy Wilson, Nicole Scherzinger, Harry Connick Jr, Robin Thicke, India.Arie, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Josh Groban, Katharine McPhee, Jordin Sparks, Sugarland, Anthony Hamilton, Justin Bieber, Musiq Soulchild, and The Jonas Brothers.
It’s currently being recorded in Los Angeles, and we can’t wait to see all star lineup and cameos. Even if you don’t agree with the level of talent for each previously mentioned artist, we can all agree on one thing. Fame used for a good cause can never a bad thing.
Who do you hope is involved with the re-recording of “We Are The World?”

it's for a good cause, and that is most important, but this – the cover of a 'classic' relief song – is a bad idea. there are some choice names to go along with jokes like Nicole Scherzinger, Miley Cyrus, Katharine McPhee and Justin Bieber, but this has fiasco written all over it. i hope it raises a lot of money, but this re-imagining of a piece of pop culture history smacks of awful self-importance.

The spirit of Michael is alive. It's about L.O.V.E. The triumph of love. The Earth Song and his children's voice ELEVATED the energy at the Grammys and now is gathering all these artists to help humanity. Aleluya!!!!

its not about whos there or if they have a good voice, its about the star power and coming together for a good cause.

I saw the complete video on tv while waiting for the olympic opening ceremonies…OMG! I am SO glad that I already donated to Haiti, so that I don't feel compelled to DL this horrific remake!! Its AWFUL! Thank goodness Michael is already gone, he would have cried upon hearing this mangled thing.
