Johnny Depp To Direct Keith Richards Documentary

Interesting note at The Playlist regarding Johnny Depp and word that the actor is headed to the director’s chair to shoot a documentary about his friend, and legendary guitarist, Keith Richards. The duo originally met while filming the third flick in the Pirates of the Caribbean series; Richards played Capt. Jack Sparrow’s father.
Depp has admitted to crafting his performance as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates movies on the iconic Richards.
The Playlist translated an interview between Depp and a Belgrade-based media website:
“Now that I’m wiser, and that enough time has passed, I can experience directing again,” said Depp. “Already next week I’ll start working on a Keith Richards documentary. While I’m in Drvengrad, my editor is already working on kilometres of archive footage and footage of his concerts.”
Depp added that he was “very touched Keith agreed to show up in front of my cameras.”
Depp’s last directorial work was The Brave in 1997. He also starred in the movie opposite Marlon Brando.
Lord knows Richards provides a treasure chest of personal and professional material, so not only is a documentary about the legendary Rolling Stones’ guitarist a very good idea (the man demands to be documented!), but Depp taking on the directing duties should add something special to the final cut.

Johnny and Keith Richards didn't originally meet when Keith played Jack Sparrow's father in the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Get your facts straight! Johnny and Keith have known each other for many years, and Johnny based the Jack Sparrow character partially on Keith Richards. Think about it…if Johnny filmed the first Pirates movie (released in 2003) and based the character on Keith, how could you print something that says he and Keith met during filming of the third Pirates movie??? Many years ago, Johnny had met and built a friendship with Keith's son, Marlon, long before Johnny and Keith ever met. Johnny had always idolized Keith as a guitar player, so when they finally met by introduction from Keith's son Marlon, they struck up a close and lasting friendship that has continued over the years. There are loads of photos of Keith and Johnny together over the years, going way back before the Pirates movies were even a glimmer in the brains of anyone at Disney.

well i looked at 10 pages of depp/richards images on google and in every photo they were dressed as fucking pirates – so i just assumed. but i shouldn't assume. that is my bad. but why do you have to know someone intimately to base a character on them? i do a pretty good jack nicholson impression but i have never met the man. but if i am wrong about when depp and richards actually met then i will make a note and be sure to have it right when more info about the doc comes out. thanks…
