Stevie Wonder Rumored To Headline Glastonbury
By Jeffrey HyattThere might be just one or two more ‘i’s’ to dot and ‘t’s’ to cross, but if there is a god in heaven then the Stevie Wonder deal to headline the final night at Glastonbury will be (wait for it….) signed, sealed and delivered any minute now.
Wonder would join U2 and Muse as headliners at the festival, which takes place on Worthy Farm in Somerset from June 23rd to the 27th.
Speaking at Event Production Show launched this week at Olympia in London, festival organizer Michael Eavis has confirmed that Muse will headline the Saturday night and Motown icon Stevie Wonder will headline Sunday night. The soul legend might still be in negotiations to perform, but it’s looking good thus far.
U2 were already confirmed as Friday night headliners and other acts confirming themselves include Hot Chip, Dizzee Rascal, Jack Johnson and Vampire Weekend.
Eavis’ daughter Emily previously told BBC 6music that they were “still slightly confirming the Sunday night headliner but apart from that, we’ve pretty much finalised the Pyramid Stage”.
“There are rumours about everyone I think. I think this is the first year that people genuinely don’t know who is going to be playing, which is a good thing.”
The festival is celebrating its 40th anniversary this summer, and Eavis noted that fans should expect highlights from the last four decades.
She said:
“We’ve got amazing highlights from the full 40 years and also some people who haven’t played before, one headliner in particular.”
Last year saw the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Blur and Neil Young were headliners on the main Pyramid Stage.
This year’s event sold out in a day after tickets went on sale last October.
