Forget the The Who’s halftime show at the Super Bowl this upcoming weekend, the big news is that the legendary rock band are planning to perform Quadrophenia in full at their Teenage Cancer Trust show at the Royal Albert Hall.

The gig is set for March 10 and will be the finale of the ten-night event, which also includes Noel Gallagher’s first solo shows since Oasis disbanded.

Released in 1973 as a double album, Quadrophenia is the band’s sixth studio album and second rock opera; the concept album was also adapted into a in 1979 by director Frank Roddam. Set in 1964, the film follows a young man named Jimmy Cooper and his adventures on the London Mod scene. It’s definitely worth a viewing if you’ve got the spare time.

The Who’s Roger Daltrey, a patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust, said:

“When The Who first got together in 2000 to raise money for this brilliant charity, I had no idea we’d achieve so much from these shows.

“In the last ten years we’ve raised over £8.7 million, helping Teenage Cancer Trust to open nine more specialist cancer units for young people across the UK.”

Other artists playing this year’s gigs include Noel Gallagher, Them Crooked Vultures, Arctic Monkeys, JLS, The Specials and a reformed Suede.

And because The Who are going to be rocking out at Super Bowl  XLIV, Sirius has launched The Who Channel – a six-day station that will feature 24 hours of The Who music, plus a live broadcast of the band’s halftime performance at the Super Bowl in Miami.
