Concert Tickets: Mastodon, The Arctic Monkeys, Converge and more
By Brian SpiegelMaybe it’s just the Theraflu talking, but these last couple of weeks have been killer on-sale weeks for the concert industry. The spring and early summer are already filled with enough tours and festivals to test the endurance of any cash strapped concert goer. This week will continue to test your true definition of “cutting back” as there is something for just about anyone, may they be hipster metal guy, hipster indie guy, hipster festival guy or non-hipster screaming Twilight fan.
We are off…
Headliner: Mastodon
Opener: Between The Buried And Me, Baroness, Valient Thorr
Dates: April 16th in Charleston, SC through May 22nd in Lexington, KY. All Dates here.
Price: $25-$35
Whats The Deal? One of the hardest working bands on the metal circuit, Mastodon will head out on their second full length US tour in six months with a month long trek featuring BTBAM (just see above, I’m not paid by the word), Baroness and Valient Thorr in tow. I would also be willing to pay good money to see what the parties are like backstage with Mastodon and Valient Thorr on board. I’m picturing beards, denim, hard liquor and flames.
Tickets On Sale:Pre-sales now, on sale this weekend.

Headliner: 3OH!3 and Cobra Starship
Opener: Travis McCoy (of Gym Class Heroes) and I Fight Dragons.
Dates: April 28th in Milwaukee, WI through June 11th in Philadelphia, PA. All dates here.
Price: $20-$30
Whats The Deal? Pop-dance-punk-rap-umm-punk is huge now, and having 3OH!3, Cobra Starship and Travis McCoy combine forces on tour is to tweens what a Bach-Beethoven-Rachmaninoff tour would be for Hollywood Bowl fans if, you know, they were all alive and not from different eras. I guess what I’m saying is that this show will feature a lot of beats, teen girls and Facebook updates.
Tickets On Sale: This weekend.

Headliner: The Slackers

Dates: March 24th in Vancouver, BC through May 1st in Pomona, CA. Dates are here.

Headliner: Converge

Dates: April 30th at TBA (Check the Converge website for more details) through May 30th in Baltimore, MD. Find all dates here.
Price: $10-$20
Whats The Deal? This is one of those shows where you will leave deaf, bloodied and with portions of your clothes ripped to shreds. In other words it’s just like your run-of-the-mill scrap-booking convention…
Tickets On Sale: This weekend.

Headliner: Julian Casablancas (of The Strokes)
Opener: TBA
Dates: March 26th in Atlanta through April 6th in Chicago. Dates here.
Price: Check venue for prices.
Whats The Deal? While a Strokes album is being rumored for a fall release, Mr. Casablancas will first go on a brief nine date tour of the US and Northern Canada in support of his recently released Phrazes of the Young solo record. He’s also playing Coachella and possibly Bonnaroo so be sure to plan your calendars accordingly.

Headliner: The Arctic Monkeys
Opener: Sleepy Sun
Dates: April 1st in Miami through April 15th in Tempe, AZ (and possibly Coachella the day after). Dates here.
Price: $25-$35
Whats The Deal? Former it-buzz-band-of-the-month and current firmly-established-English-band-who-tours-well-without-selling-a-ton-of-record The Arctic Monkeys have announced a two week US tour in support of their recent “Humbug” release. Because I’m a music journalist, I must now legally remind you that their April 15th date in Tempe, AZ is a day before Coachella begins a few hundred miles away in Indio, CA. So yeah, the band will probably be at Coachella at some point before getting a date shake and visiting that giant dinosaur on route 10 outside of Palm Springs.
