John Mayer Playboy Interview Spreads to Twitter

It appears that John Mayer’s consistent foot-in-mouth disease may have evolved into a pure snake-eating-its-own-tail tableau, literally consuming the soundbite generator out of existence. Or at least, if the Fates are good, off of Twitter. That’s right, he might be laying low from the Twitter universe for a while after his infamous interview that gave a whole new meaning to the term TMI.

Following a tearful, mid-concert apology at a show in Nashville – a mea culpa for his comments earlier this week in Playboy about, among other things, Jessica Simpson being a walking sex drug and the fact that his genitalia may have racist leanings. After the scandal blew up so quickly Mayer has all but disappeared from the Twitterverse. What was once his near-hourly outlet of advice and narcissism now sits, for the time being, in tumble-weed silence.

“In the quest to be clever I completely forgot about the people that I love and the people that love me,” Mayer claimed during the Nashville show.  “I went, as I have begun to do, into a wormhole of selfishness and greed and arrogance.”

Furthermore, his last tweet indicates that the 32-year-old guitarist may be moving away from his public displays of self-examination and discussion, which if true is rather ironic, as he announced it from a popular public forum:

“I just wanted to play the guitar for people. Everything else just sort of popped up and I improvised, and kept doubling down on it…”

No word yet on what the next stop on Mayer’s apology tour will be, but wherever he goes we hope he puts the music first and his attempts at sarcasm second.
