Avril Lavigne Vs. Robert Smith Whose Alice Song Do You Like Better Avril Lavigne Vs. Robert Smith: Whose Alice Song Is Better?March 5th is coming up fast for fans of Tim Burton and/or the classic tale titled Alice In Wonderland. When Tim Burton first revealed he was working with Johnny Depp on a darker version of the story, who wasn’t excited? Sweeney Todd was back in 2007 and let’s face it, The Corpse Bride provided redemption for the disappointing Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. So, when Burton announced he was taking a stab at another classic, a very surreal and hippie-friendly one at that, our ears perked up and our eyes have been on the lookout.

We previously brought you the track list for the official soundtrack, Almost Alice, which we weren’t too happy with. However, we do understand that this soundtrack is for commercial purposes only, hence, songs “inspired” by the film. (Thank God for the score coming from Danny Elfman!) Avril Lavigne has teamed up with producer, Butch Walker, on the lead single, “Alice (Underground).” However, Robert Smith (of The Cure) has the only track on the entire album that was originally from 1951′s Alice in Wonderland and has reinterpreted “Very Good Advice.”

Lavgine’s vocals have improved a bit on this track, however, the smooth serenity in the song doesn’t last long. Lavigne occasionally dips back into the habit of belting out Alanis Morissette-like choruses which makes her sound retrograde back into obnoxiousness. At least she’s not flaunting her chunks and hoodies with ears (or devil horns?) to declare she’s “so punk” in this one. Listen to the song and watch the official video below!

Avril Lavigne – “Alice (Underground):”

On the other end of the spectrum, we have the infamous Robert Smith. We don’t have a video for his song, but you can take a listen to it below. Personally, we think it sounds exactly like a song Smith would write in this generation. It has the same gothic pop touch to it which The Cure is known for, but oddly seems to fit in more with the lo-fi indie crowd these days.

Now that you’ve listened to both. Whose song from the Almost Alice soundtrack is better? Avril Lavigne or Robert Smith? (Keep in mind, Smith’s IS a cover.)

Dave Myers directed…Mad Hatter is two different guys. Some of it is footage of Johnny, the rest is a guy named Danny Lopez. I've posted a link to his site.
