Travis Barker Replaces DJ AM With DJ A-Trak
By Seraphina L.The music community mourned a great friend with DJ AM‘s tragic death back in August. With a mark left on all aspects of the entertainment industry, it wasn’t just his celebrity friends who felt the abrupt change. One of his closest friends, Travis Barker, who happened to be in a severe plane crash along with him a few months before his death, would know better than anyone.
However, it seems like Barker has finally moved on and found another DJ to jam with. With DJ AM gone, the producer/drummer (of Blink-182) has recently been teaming up with DJ A-Trak.
DJ A-Trak is mostly known for three things. The first being that he is often associated with Kanye West because of his gig as West’s DJ on tour. Secondly, the DJ is also known for being the brother of Dave Macklovitch aka Dave 1 of Chromeo. He is also known for dating female emcee, Kid Sister, whose record he produced after he signed her to his label, Fool’s Gold.
However, it looks like he’s adding more onto his lengthy resume as he will be joining Barker on the club tours that was supposed to go on with DJ AM. According to MTV, Barker is nothing less than excited to be working with the critically acclaimed DJ:
“I had met A-Trak last year at Coachella, but I had seen a set of his at Avalon in Los Angeles maybe four years ago, with AM. He was a guy who I always wanted to work with in some way. So I gave him a call.”
A-Trak shared mutual feelings about the new partnership:
“When Travis hollered, I was definitely flattered. We started by jamming once, back in the fall, just came over to the studio, and we did, like, one hour of jamming, which we thought was maybe a half an hour. I just started playing records and scratching, and he was playing on top, and it went really, really naturally. It was very fluid. And we stopped and looked at the watch, and it was like, ‘Oh, we’ve been playing for an hour and didn’t even realize it.’ And I think that solidified for both of us in our minds that we could do this pretty easily.”
The DJ also went on to explain their sound:
“It’s going to be a mix of everything,. We’re still kind of rehearsing it, but I think it’s going to be some songs people recognize, some of the remixes Travis has done, some of my remixes. Just kind of mix it up.”
We’re big fans of A-Trak but how do you feel about Travis Barker recruiting him to replace his friend DJ AM?
