10 Billionth Song Sold By iTunes Is Johnny Cash But Black Eyed Peas Hold No. 1 Spot
By Seraphina L.
Apple‘s iTunes has sold it’s 10 billionth song when consumer, 71-year-old Louie Sulcer purchased the Johnny Cash song, “Guess Things Happen That Way,” today. As the 10 billionth consumer, Sulcer has also received a $10,000 gift card from iTunes – an enticing factor which swayed consumers to buy a few more songs than usual this past week.
However, what’s more interesting is the fact that the top most downloaded songs of all time greatly contrast the genre and era of the winner’s choice. Although iTunes was only launched in 2003, the songs that made the top 20 don’t necessarily represent the wide spectrum of music fiends. Take a look below to see what we’re talking about.
The top most downloaded song on iTunes of all time is Black Eyed Peas‘ “I Gotta A Feeling,” even though it was just released in 2009. The same goes for Miley Cyrus‘ “Party In The U.S.A.” There are a few older tracks on there such as Coldplay‘s “Viva la Vida” and Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah” but none of these songs even reach back to 2005.
It looks like everyone in the mainstream boat finally latched on two years after the organized music library and store was launched by Apple. Take a look at the entire Top 20 most downloaded iTunes songs of all time below:
- I Gotta Feeling – Black Eyed Peas
- Poker Face – Lady Gaga
- Boom Boom Pow – Black Eyed Peas
- I’m Yours – Jason Mraz
- Viva la Vida – Coldplay
- Just Dance – Lady Gaga & Colby O’Donis
- Low (feat. T-Pain) – Flo Rida
- Love Story – Taylor Swift
- Bleeding Love – Leona Lewis
- TiK ToK – Ke$ha
- Disturbia – Rihanna
- So What – Pink
- I Kissed A Girl – Katy Perry
- Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) – Beyoncé
- Hot N Cold – Katy Perry
- Stronger – Kanye West
- Live Your Life (feat. Rihanna) – T.I.
- Hey There Delilah – Plain White T’s
- Right Round – Flo Rida
- Party In the U.S.A. – Miley Cyrus
Ke$ha may have made the list, but it’s too bad she couldn’t have had a second song on the list such as Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, or Katy Perry. She should have made sure she received royalties for her backing vocals on Flo Rida’s “Right Round.” We’re also a little shocked that Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” is not as high on the list since she made such a riské splash with that tune. As for Kanye, let’s hope he doesn’t make a scene about this as well.
